OnePlus 7 release date, rumours, features and news

OnePlus traditionally announces two flagship devices every year – a standard model in the first half, followed by a “T” model in the second half.

The OnePlus 6T was announced in October 2018, but there are numerous rumours surrounding the OnePlus 7 with the launch planned for 14 May 2019. Here is everything we have heard so far.

14 May 2019

It has been confirmed that the OnePlus 7 Series launch event will take place on 14 May, making it a little earlier than last year’s launch.

In terms of pricing for the OnePlus 7, we don’t expect to see it cheaper than the OnePlus 6T which starts at £529. This is also expected to be the base model, with three models rumoured including a Pro model and a 5G model.

OnePlus 7 rumours and renders: What’s happened?7 May 2019: OnePlus 7 press images confirm an almost identical design to the OnePlus 6T

WinFuture published some marketing images of the standard OnePlus 7. The images show the device off from multiple angles with a very similar look to the OnePlus 6T.

6 May 2019: OnePlus 7 Pro will have HDR10+ compliant screen

OnePlus has confirmed its upcoming flagship, the OnePlus 7 Pro, will be the company’s first to feature an HDR10+ compatible display, like the Samsung Galaxy S10 range.

4 May 2019: OnePlus 7 ad weirdly focuses on its lack of a proper water-resistant rating

OnePlus tweeted a teaser advert for the OnePlus 7 Pro showing it being dropped into a bucket of water. The idea of the teaser is to show the OnePlus 7 Pro will offer water resistance but it won’t be an official IP rating like other devices.

WinFuture published some images of the OnePlus 7 Pro showing a triple camera on the rear, a full uninterrupted display on the front and a curved screen.

2 May 2019: OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro specs leak

SlashLeaks leaked a set of specifications for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, confirming some of the previous rumours, as well as adding a few more details.

You can see the specifications in the tweet below, though continue to take them with a pinch of salt as nothing is official as yet.

OnePlus tweeted a teaser video for the OnePlus 7 series confirming the OnePlus 7 Pro will feature a triple camera on the rear. The teaser showed an outline of a device with a triple camera setup on the back and the company hash tagged OnePlus 7 Pro in the tweet itself.

OnePlus confirmed the OnePlus 7 Series launch event will take place on 14 May. There will be four global events taking place at the same time in London, New York, Bangalore and Beijing. 

The launch will kick off at 4pm British Summer Time (11am EDT). 

23 April 2019: OnePlus 7 Pro’s ultra-smooth and crisp display confirmed by CEO

OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau confirmed in an interview with The Verge, that the Pro model of its upcoming OnePlus 7 will have a much smoother, crisper display than any of its predecessors.

Lau didn’t confirm any specifications of the display but he described it as “very, very crisp”.

18 April 2019: OnePlus 7 Pro specs leak, official tease confirms 90Hz display

Ishan Agarwal tweeted a few more details regarding the OnePlus 7 Pro, including a Super AMOLED Quad HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate. He also said the device would have dual speakers, a 4000mAh battery and a triple rear camera.

Pete Lau, CEO and founder of OnePlus also released a video tease on Twitter, focusing on a “Fast and Smooth” experience, which suggests the rumour of the 90Hz refresh rate could be accurate.

Leaker @OnLeaks tweeted claiming there would be three OnePlus devices announced on 14 May, including a standard OnePlus 7, a OnePlus 7 Pro and a OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. 

The OnePlus 7 is said to come with a dual camera and 6.4-inch flat display with a water drop notch, while the OnePlus 7 Pro is said to have a pop up front camera, a triple rear camera and a 6.64-inch curved display. 

16 April 2019: Latest OnePlus 7 leak shows a 6T lookalike

The OnePlus 7 has leaked again, but this time the renders and video show a device that looks very similar to the OnePlus 6T with a dual camera and water drop notch display. It is thought this might be a base model.

4 April 2019: Case renders show OnePlus 7 from every angle

A SlashLeaks contributor found a number of renders from a case manufacturer showing the OnePlus 7 off from every angle. The design shown is similar to previous leaks, with a triple camera on the rear and a full display. Like the previous case leak, these renders have a space at the top for a pop up camera.

7 March 2019: Case leak shows supports pop up camera

SlashLeaks posted a picture of a case, claimed to be for the OnePlus 7. The case features a cut out on the rear for the rumoured triple camera, along with a hole in the top in the same position previous renders have shown the pop up camera.

5 March 2019: Hands on image of OnePlus 7 shows pop up camera

A hands on image purporting to be the OnePlus 7 appeared online, discovered by MySmartPrice, again showing a pop up selfie camera. No further information was offered and some suggested the image was a Photoshopped OnePlus 6T. 

4 March 2019: Pop up camera appears in latest renders

More renders surface of the OnePlus 7, this time from Steve Hemmerstoffer, otherwise known as @OnLeaks. The renders show a triple camera on the rear, coupled with pop up camera on the front, allowing for a full display.

1 March 2019: Wireless charging for OnePlus 7 unlikely

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau told CNET during Mobile World Congress 2019 that wireless charging is “far inferior” to his company’s wired Warp Charge.

Based on his comments during the interview, CNET determined the OnePlus 7 will launch this year without wireless charging capabilities.

14 January 2019: More renders appear, this time with a slide up camera

A leaked image appeared on SlashLeaks showing the OnePlus 7 with a full display but no sign of a front camera. The uncorroborated image was then followed up with some more renders from Ben Geskin, this time showing a sliding design like the Oppo Find X and the Honor Magic 2.

13 November 2018: OnePlus won’t be 5G

A OnePlus spokesperson told CNET Spain the company was planning a new line of devices to complement the OnePlus 7 conventional and T launches and this new line would be the one to offer OnePlus’ first 5G handset.

2 November 2018: Renders of OnePlus 7 appear with punch hole camera

Ben Geskin posted some renders of the OnePlus 7 to his Twitter feed. The renders show the OnePlus 7 with an all-screen front and a punch hole front camera in the centre at the top.
